yea i agree. Soil is very forgiving and you can make quite a few mistakes and pull it out. Hydro is very needy and can go wrong instantly. Soil is easier

Soil, most definitely. Novice or Pro soil is the way to go. well at least in my opinion anyway... outdoors is the best way for a novice to grow, all they have to do is water it and keep it from getting eaten.

I want a 100% Organic Medicine. I know from my outdoor experience I can achieve that in dirt... Are there a 100% organic nutes for hydro??

Hey all...I've really been avidly enjoying the reviews and it's great to now see a FORUM. Nice group of cyber-entities here!

Personally, I used to grow hydro...I then switched to the "Hempy Method." I will never go back. (I guess Hempy is a form of passive hydro). At any rate, I have found it simple beyond belief and highly effective. My growing has certainly not suffered and if anything plant growth and vitality has improved due to stabilization of nute and pH issues. OK...it involves a fair amount of watering/feeding but I look upon those as being a chance to get intimate with the ladies. Just another alternative. I have nothing against soil but I'm not sure it would work in my paticular circumstances...would that I could grow outside...oh well. Maybe some day.

INDEED. The soil will give you a buffer effect when it comes to nutrients. So if you do make the mistake of over-fertilizing, the soil will be more forgiving than an artificial substrate like rockwool.

I've always heard that soil is the way to go for a beginner/amateur/novice. Ed Rosenthal even stated this on an episode of Cannabis Planet.

If you know what are doing and able to "baby" your plants, then you are ready for Hydro.

Depends on the "hydro" system

A little run to waste, set the res and pres play my friends. Although some equipment and set up.

You can hand water coco pots, that's technically hydro and same concept, even simpler then adding compost and mixing casting etc.
-plant coco...
-make a watering can up with nutes and adjust ph (same as soil) (unless you go organic...whole new convo)
-water...

so i don't know, i'm going to have to go hand water coco for the hydro vote :p

I'm still on my first grow, but I voted for hydro.

Yes, soil is easier to grow a plant. But once I switched to hydro the growth was significantly greater. I'm running DWC which is basically just a bucket full of water and nutes with an air stone and air pump. Doesn't get much simplier than that. The extra growth is worth the effort and not too hard for a beginner I think.

soil is the most forgiving but hydro is the most addictive and fun!

Thanks Vadar. I honestly did not know after all the times I have seen that name on other forums that it was an Organic Line!

There a a couple different organice hydro nutrient systems you could go with, Advance Nutrients has a full organic line. Though, in my opinion growing organic involves soil, or some soiless organic mix. unless you can show me where to get a hydro system made out of organic material. unless you are using coco fiber as your medium. and self watering like the one guy said. I personally dont do hydro for the reason that i like to go as "all natural" as possible. I prefer outdoor growing all together. out side i can have a six inch plant get 5 feet in less than 3 whole weeks. indica, not sativa. ahh the wonders of the June sun. though June is a late start, they grow the fastest in their early stages at that point in the summer.:D hydro is faster inside, but go all organic by going outside and see some real growth boosts.

You can't grow all year outside..Some places it is even hard in the summer! Like here were I am surrounded by redwoods that are 200 feet tall. and the sun doesn't penetrate well enough.... Outdoors is probably the best smoke in general.but not everybody has that option.:D:D
