I've never done it before and I'm tired of paying out the ass. I had a friend suggest LED's for vegging and HPS for flowering. I need input on economical high yielding lighting systems that are better for stealth, electricity consumption is really my only concern as certain uniformed people in my area look at power meters and other tell tell signs of a home grow. (We've had a few big ones get shut down and I'm not really interested in coming home to something like that.)
If I were to use the HPS for flowering only and the LED's for vegging along with the screen of green method, what's a realistic first time yield expectation? Also any input on cost effective high yield lighting would be great. Thanks guys and girls.

Led's or T-5 flouro lighting is sufficient IMO for vegging, but to have quality and quantity, you need to flower with HPS. How much electricity you use depends simply on how many lights you want to burn, depending on what yield you desire. If you want to grow a lb of good quality, your gonna need a 1000 watt HPS set-up, and basically 1 lb per 1000 watt light is an average yield. First time, you might not do that well, but through a little trial and error you should be up to that yield or higher in no time. The right strain, and everything perfect, you can get a gram per watt with all dialed in, but that is the ultimate, not the ordinary or average. You should be able to run 2 1000 watt light swithout making your power bill go too crazy, as to alert anyone.

Thank you wheezer for your thoughts. I'd love to be able to do outdoor as your plants are always beauties and I think plants grow better outdoors anyway. Just isn't able to happen that way sadly.
On another note I just inherited a some crazy light from Sun Systems and I'm having a hard time figuring anything out about it. I find it odd that nowhere on the light or ballast does it say what kind of bulb it uses and how many watts. If anyone can help there i'd appreciate it.
